Lookout

Since the invention of the printing press, books have been the principal method for spreading knowledge and thoughts between people. Reading can be done anywhere, but for more serious subjects, peace and quiet are required. Public libraries are great for this, but is tranquility ever achieved when others are around? Many avid readers fantasize about reading rooms which are only accessible by a chosen few. Small, lesser known places in which privacy can be easily found when sought after.

Beate Gütschow's LS #16

Using Beate Gütschow's LS #16 as inspiration, this project superimposes a private reading room into Beate's imagined landscape. The view created from the main, floor-to-ceiling window is exactly the view pictured in LS #16. The narrow profile of the building allows one to see this view from anywhere within, guaranteeing a satisfying rest for the eyes while indulging in a good book.
